Newsflash Diani Children’s Village
# 11/2009Following our last newsletter of July, we now have pleasure in giving you an update on the Children's Home.
In general the children are doing very fine, the form four candicates have started their exams and will finish by the middle of November. Some are eager to move on and join a college or universitiy in the beginning of 2010. During the time in between some want to find a holiday jobs and other are interested in some volunteering activities.
We have a new little girl at the home named Linda. She is about 1 year old and was abandoned by her mother. She was rescued by neighbours after being abandoned for two days and taken to the police station. Investigations are still going on to find any living relatives, in the meantime she is having a good time with the other small children.
Due to a countrywide shortage of one day old chicks, we have not been able to produce our usual number of broilers , however we are doing all we can to keep on supplying our customers regularly. A new flock of layers has just started producing, please place your orders for fresh free range eggs.
Ishmael has been very busy with furniture orders, we are very grateful with all the support we receive from individuals, schools and projects. We were also able to offer work to some very skilled carpenters from the APDK foundation.
The rains have finally arrived and we are able to produce fresh vegetables and fruits for the children. This represents a significant saving for the Home.
Together with the Dutch Foundation HICK (Handicapped and Innocent Children Kenia) DCV started a very special project. The idea is to make coconut birdfeeders which can be placed in your garden, terrace or balcony. The profit of the sales will be donated to organisations looking after orphans and children with a disability. At the Diani Children's Village we are planning to start the production in November. Please contact us if you would like to place an order. They make a great gift for your family or friends.
On behalf of the children, staff-and committee members, we would like to express our sincere thanks for all your great assistance.
With best regards
DCV team
