In order to help the home to become financially stable and for the children to learn how to become more independent in their future lives, some self-initiative income generating projects were started at the Diani Children’s Village.

Furniture Workshop
A few years ago, we built a furniture-workshop. The main aim of this project is to teach the children some basic skills to improve their employment opportunities in the future.
Several sponsors and well-wishers have helped to equip the workshop with all the necessary tools and materials.
The workshop manager, Ishmael, has a lot of experience in woodwork and makes the most fantastic pieces. Hotels, schools and individuals are supporting this project by placing their orders for example beds, shelves, cupboards, chairs, tables etc.

Poultry projects

Broiler-chicken
The broilers project was started in 2004.
The response from hotels and individuals around the community was so overwhelming that we soon doubled the size of the chicken-house.
We are now selling between 80-100 chickens on a weekly basis.

Free-range chicken-layers project
A free-range layers project was started in December 2005 and has already taken off very well. At the moment we are keeping 60 chickens and the eggs have become very popular because of their big size and yellow/orange yolk.

These three projects are providing the Home with a small income, which helps to meet some of the daily operational costs.
By supporting any of these projects, you will help the Home to become more independent.
