Newsflash Diani Children’s Village
# 02/2008Dear sponsors and well-wishers,
We first of all would like to thank you all very much for the many emails, phone calls and text message we received during this difficult time, it really comforted us to know that so many people are concerned.
All children and staff-members are fine and safe. The children have gone back to school, including the ones who attend secondary schools in Nairobi and other places upcountry.
The children enjoyed their long Christmas break and were able to catch up with each other.
Helen and Humphrey both did very well in their exams and are joining secondary school in a few days time. The small ones, Fred, Emmanuel and Henry have joined baby class and absolutely love it!The layers are doing well and soon they will produce appr. 250 eggs per day.
We also still have a very good number of broilers, which have become very popular amongst the residents.
The workshop has produced some wonderful items and our pool of “repeat customers” is growing. The annual Fun Run took place on the 30th of December 2007. Although we had a low turn-out because of the political situation, we still were able to raise a considerable amount for the Home.
Our main goal for this year is to raise enough funds to enable us to buy another vehicle as the current minibus has become a danger on the road and costs the project far too much in repairs. The idea is to run the vehicle as a “matatu” ( local public transport) so that we can cover our monthy transport cost.
On behalf of all the children, staffmembers and committee-members, many thanks for your great support and we wish you a peaceful and healthy 2008!
