Newsletter Diani Children’s Village
Avril 2007An update on the what’s been happening at DCV!
In general the children are doing very well. Emmanuel and Henry are now walking and are very active, every day is a new discovery. Joy is quietly looking at what is happening and is probably the most satisfied baby we have ever had! The Easter holidays were great as everybody came together at home, the little ones especially enjoyed all the attention!
The new accommodation for the older children has really proved to be a great success and we could certainly no longer do without it! The young people now have a quiet place to study which has a positive effect on their academic results.
Unfortunately we have had a lot of bad luck with both chicken projects. At the moment, it is very difficult to get hold of one-day old chickens and also young layers, which is the result of a shortage throughout the whole country. We hope that the situation will improve as the home is being assisted by the income of these projects. The furniture workshop however is very busy with orders for beds, tables, chairs, doors and window-frames.
We also have great news concerning the outside kitchen and canteen. In the meantime, the construction has started and has already progressed quite far (see photo). We are very grateful for all the fantastic donations received for this project and could not have imagined that we would be able to go ahead with the building so soon! The outside kitchen was a longtime wish of the housemothers, as cooking in the existing kitchen became too difficult with the increasing number of children and youngsters. The canteen will enable everybody to eat at the same time and actually sit together, which is so important for this big family. On behalf of the children, staff-and committee members, we would like to express our sincere thanks for all your great assistance.
With best regards
DCV team
